Pets are family. There is little denying that family pets usually, and rightfully, demand the same love and affection that other family members receive. Whether a child’s pet hamster or a couple’s pack of fur-babies, animals can add much to our lives. However, animals aren’t always a source of joy. Sometimes, due to age or injury, a treasured family member’s pain can become a source of pain for the entire family. Even congenital conditions found in certain animal breeds can lead to limited mobility, pain, and discomfort that makes life difficult. But what can you do for your furry family members?
Traditional medicine may have a treatment that can ease the aches and pains of your family pets, and restore the energy lost to advancing age. It isn’t an expensive synthetic drug, or a compound with terrible side effects. It’s a substance that has been safely used for centuries, by both humans and their favorite animals, for a variety of ailments. It’s elk velvet antler, better known as EVA.
EVA has been considered as medicine for as long as 2,000 years. It has been found as a medicine in both China and Russia. The list of ailments it was thought to affect is long – arthritis, anemia, bone and ligament injuries, stomach and digestive issues, fatigue, sexual dysfunction, etc. While traditional medicine is often dismissed in Western cultures, recent clinical studies have suggested that elk velvet antler contains numerous compounds that are, indeed, beneficial for both humans and animals. Some of these substances include:
- Chondroitin sulfate
What kind of illnesses can EVA treat? Glucosamine and chondroitin are popular supplements used to relieve symptoms of arthritis, as well as other joint issues. The calcium and other minerals found in EVA can work with your pet’s own metabolism to increase energy. Collagen and amino acids found in EVA can improve your pet’s skin and fur. Even healthy animals can benefit from these compounds, as together they can keep healthy animals feeling energetic and young for longer.
Elk velvet antler is a natural, sustainably-sourced product. Modern EVA production is normally performed at elk farms around the world. These farms raise and care for the elk, working to keep them safe from predators and disease. Adult male elk grow antlers every year. These antlers are usually harvested when the velvet, a nutrient-rich covering over the growing antlers, is at its peak potency. Humane farms then harvest the antlers using an anesthetic to protect the animals. Then the antlers are frozen, freeze-dried, and ground into a powder for use in a variety of supplement forms. EVA’s popularity has been increasing, both for human and animal use, since it has no known side effects.
